Car safety is important in order to prevent accidents and the loss of life. It is critical that all vehicles be designed with standard safety features. The most basic standard that all the cars follow for safety is seat-belts. But there are many advanced features that need to be considered as a standard in today’s world in order to be safe from an accident. Let’s go through must-have features when it comes to car safety:

1. Airbags

A standard since the late 1990s, airbags are one of the most basic and must-have features for car safety. Frontal, rear, and curtain airbags are some of the types. Sensors that are connected to the computer system detect collisions during a crash and inflate the airbags. They inflate in a fraction of a second and deflate equally fast. Though they are known to be highly efficient, it can cause fatalities to passengers not using seat-belts. New standard airbags now are equipped to detect position, weight, and human presence in order to minimize the injury for drivers or infants seated in car seats.

2. ABS

Before brakes with an anti-locking feature, the front tires used to be easily locked-up, making them slide on the slippery road. There are sensors installed for each wheel and the computer controls the braking action in order to avoid wheels getting locked. This helps the driver control the steering in case emergency brakes are applied. Though the pulsating sensation can be alarming to a first timer, all the driver needs to do is hit the pedal hard, and the rest will be taken care of.

3. ESC

This is a Stability Control System that aids in avoiding skidding during sharp turns and helps maintain the equilibrium of the car. Like ABS, this also used wheel sensors to detect speed, the angle at which steering turns, and motion. So if the car goes adrift, ESC applies brakes on one or many wheels for a moment and pulls the car back on track.

4. ACC

Adaptive Cruise Control is available on most of the cars today. It is normally used when there is a long haul and traffic congestion. Drivers can set a throttle for acceleration and braking using radars and sensors in order to maintain suitable distance during traffic jams.

5. AEB

This feature is mainly used when the driver is in a panicky mode and does not quickly react to a certain collision situation. In this case, this emergency braking system senses this collision and applies emergency brakes.

6. Lane detection systems

Lane departure control helps the driver to keep the vehicle within the white markers on the roads. Whenever there is such a situation, a warning buzzer goes off. The lane keeping system helps the driver maintain its lane by steering back.

7. Blind spot detection system

It helps to warn the driver about a potential vehicle miss and signals on the mirrors of the door with a shiny yellow or orange light.

8. Camera for rear view

These are mainly used by the drivers while a car reverses. These cameras have a large angle to provide a wide view of the backyard and avoid hitting children or animals.
